"Specialist in Humanities/International Services" or /jin-bun-chi-shi-ki--ko-ku-sa-i-gyo-mu/ in Japanese is one of "Status of Residence" defined by Japanese immigration law.

Persons qualified for "Specialist in Humanities/International Services"
- foreign language teachers, interpreters, copywriters, designers
etc.

Spouse and Children
- a spouse of a person who is qualified for "Specialist in Humanities/International Services"
- a child of a person who is qualified for "Specialist in Humanities/International Services"
will be qualified for the status "Dependent".

Followings are quotations from the immigration law/ordinance of the web site of Japanese government. However some of them were quoted before the revision in 2012. Therefore they might be old and different from the present rule.

本邦において行うことができる活動（出入国管理及び難民認定法　別表第一　二）

Activities to engage in services, which require knowledge pertinent to jurisprudence, economics, sociology or other human science fields or to engage in services which require specific ways of thought or sensitivity based on experience with foreign culture, based on a contract with a public or private organization in Japan (except for the activities listed in the right-hand column of the "Professor", "Artist" and "Journalist" columns of Table (1), and except for the activities listed in the right-hand column of the "Investor/Business Manager", "Legal/Accounting Services", "Medical Services", "Researcher", "Instructor", "Intra-company Transferee" and "Entertainer" columns of this table).

本邦の公私の機関との契約に基づいて行う法律学、経済学、社会学その他の人文科学の分野に属する知識を必要とする業務又は外国の文化に基盤を有する思考若しくは感受性を必要とする業務に従事する活動（一の表の教授の項、芸術の項及び報道の項の下欄に掲げる活動並びにこの表の投資・経営の項から教育の項まで、企業内転勤の項及び興行の項の下欄に掲げる活動を除く。）

Ministerial Ordinance to Provide for Criteria Pursuant to Article 7, paragraph (1), item (ii) of the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act
基準（出入国管理及び難民認定法第七条第一項第二号の基準を定める省令・省令第十六号）

The applicant must fulfill all of the following requirements; provided, however, that this shall not apply to cases where the applicant intends to engage in duties related to representation associated with the proceedings in an international arbitration case as provided in Article 58-2 of the Special Measures Act on the Handling of Legal Business by Foreign Lawyers (Act No. 66 of 1986).
(i) In cases where the applicant intends to engage in duties that require knowledge in the humanities, he/she must have graduated from university or acquired an education equivalent thereto, and majored in a subject pertaining to the knowledge necessary for performing the duties in which he/she intends to engage, or must have at least 10 years' experience (including the period of time spent majoring in the subject related to such knowledge at a university, college of technology (koto senmon gakko), senior high school, during a course of study in the latter part of secondary school (chuto kyoiku gakko), or during a specialized course of study at a vocational school (senshu gakko)).
(ii) In cases where the applicant intends to engage in duties that require ways of thinking or sensibilities that have their foundations in a foreign culture, he/she must fulfill all of the following requirements.
(a) The applicant must engage in translation, interpretation, language instruction, public relations, overseas transactions, fashion or interior design, product development, or other, similar duties.
(b) The applicant must have at least 3 years' experience in the relevant duties; provided, however, that this shall not apply to cases where the applicant who has graduated from university is to engage in translation, interpretation, or language instruction.
(iii) The applicant must receive no less remuneration than would a Japanese national for comparable work.

申請人が次のいずれにも該当していること。ただし、申請人が、外国弁護士による法律事務の取扱いに関する特別措置法（昭和六十一年法律第六十六号）第五十八条の二に規定する国際仲裁事件の手続についての代理に係る業務に従事しようとする場合は、この限りでない。
一　申請人が人文科学の分野に属する知識を必要とする業務に従事しようとする場合は、従事しようとする業務について、これに必要な知識に係る科目を専攻して大学を卒業し若しくはこれと同等以上の教育を受け又は従事しようとする業務について十年以上の実務経験（大学、高等専門学校、高等学校、中等教育学校の後期課程又は専修学校の専門課程において当該知識に係る科目を専攻した期間を含む。）により、当該知識を修得していること。
二　申請人が外国の文化に基盤を有する思考又は感受性を必要とする業務に従事しようとする場合は、次のいずれにも該当していること。
　イ　翻訳、通訳、語学の指導、広報、宣伝又は海外取引業務、服飾若しくは室内装飾に係るデザイン、商品開発その他これらに類似する業務に従事すること。
　ロ　従事しようとする業務に関連する業務について三年以上の実務経験を有すること。ただし、大学を卒業した者が翻訳、通訳又は語学の指導に係る業務に従事する場合は、この限りでない。
三　申請人が日本人が従事する場合に受ける報酬と同等額以上の報酬を受けること。

(i) Certificate of matters entered in the registry and a copy of the profit and loss statement of the inviting organization.
(ii) Material certifying the contents of business of the inviting organization.
(iii) Graduation certificate or a certificate pertaining to the period during which the alien majored in subjects pertaining to the activities, and a document certifying the alien's career.
(iv) Document certifying the contents and period of the activities and the alien's position and reward.
