Status for Employment - BS/MS/etc Degree Holder -

There are several status for a foreign national who wish to stay and work in Japan in the field of Engineering, Science, etc.

Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services 「技術・人文知識・国際業務」 Researcher 「研究」 Instructor 「教育」 Medical Services 「医療」 Intracompany Transferee 「企業内転勤」 Skilled Labor 「技能」 Designated Activities 「特定活動」 are "Status of Residence" for a specialist in the field of engineering, science, medicine, etc. Requirements of each Status largely vary and depend on academic backgrounds and/or working experience of an applicant.

Engineer
A person who was graduated from college in the field of Engineering, etc and wish to work in Japan as an engineer, etc in the field related to his/her degree may be eligible to apply for the status "Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services", etc.

IT Specialist
A person who was graduated from college in the field of Engineering, Science, etc and wish to work in Japan as an IT Specialist, etc in the field related to his/her degree may be eligible to apply for the status "Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services", "Designated Activities", etc.

Architect
A person who was graduated from college in the field of Architecture, etc and wish to work in Japan as an architect may be eligible to apply for the status "Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services". If his/her background is based on foreign architecture, he/she may be eligible to apply for the status "Skilled Labor".

Scientist
A person who was graduated from college in the field of Science, etc and wish to work in Japan as a scientist, researcher, etc in the field related to his/her degree may be eligible to apply for the status "Researcher", etc.

Medical Doctor/Nurse
A medical doctor, dentist, nurse, etc who are qualified by Japanese laws may be eligible to apply for the status "Medical Services".
