TOP > Status for Work (Working VISA) > Graduation and Work
If you are graduating from a school or already graduated and would like to work in Japan, you need to check a new status for work and to apply for your status change for work.
Appropriate Status of Residence may depend on the type of work, organization where you will work, etc.
If you have a university degree, the most popular status is Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services 「技術・人文知識・国際業務」.
If you continue your study at a public or private institution, you might meet the criteria of Researcher 「研究」.
If you teach at an international school, you might meet the criteria of Instructor 「教育」.
If you have 10-year experience at a restaurant in your home country and just completed Japanese course here in Japan, you can work as a cook under Skilled Labor 「技能」.
Of course, you can apply for Business Manager 「経営・管理」 and start your own business
In order to apply for a status for work, in principle you need to have a position offer from an employer. And, it is important that you need to apply for the status change before your present status expires.
