"Intracompany Transferee" or /ki-gyo-nai-ten-kin/ in Japanese is one of "Status of Residence" defined by Japanese immigration law.
Activities that can be carried out under the status of residence of "Intracompany Transferee" are the same as activities that can be done with the status of residence of "Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services" and can be broadly divided into three.
技術... Activities engaged in work that requires skills or knowledge belonging to the fields of science, engineering and other natural sciences
人文知識... Activities engaged in work requiring knowledge belonging to the fields of law, economics, sociology and other humanities
国際業務... Activities engaged in work requiring thought or susceptibility based on foreign culture
Persons qualified for "Intracompany Transferee"
- transferred to the Japanese branch (head office of the same company, etc.)
etc.
If you are engaged in research work, you may fall under the status of residence of "Researcher".
In order to be recognized as an "Intracompany Transferee" status of residence, the following requirements must be satisfied.
The provisions of the period
The status of residence of "Intracompany Transferee" is a requirement to "establish a period for transfer" to a place of business located in Japan. Although this does not interfere with the renewal procedure, it is necessary for the relocation orders, declaration orders, etc. to clearly indicate the period of service at the office located in Japan.
Work requirement for the last year
Be engaged in the business of "Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services" at a head office, branch office or other business establishment located in a foreign country immediately before the transfer relating to the application.
That period must last for more than one year. (* If there is a period during which you are engaged in business at a place of business in Japan of a public or private institution with a business establishment in a foreign country with a status of residence of "corporate transferee", the period is the sum total of that period)
"Period of Stay" will be determined among one of the followings.
5-year, 3-year, 1-year or 3-month.
Spouse and/or Children of a person who is staying in Japan under the status of "Intracompany Transferee" will be qualified for the status "Dependent".

The applicant falls under all of the following requirements:
申請人が次のいずれにも該当していること。
(i) if the applicant engaged in the services listed in the right-hand column corresponding to "Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services" specified in the Appended Table I (2) of the Act at the main office, branch office, or other offices outside of Japan immediately prior to the transfer pertaining to the application, the period was for a continuous period of one year or more (if the applicant engaged in the duties at a business office in Japan of a public or private organization with a business office outside of Japan with the status of residence of "Intra-company Transferee," the total period with the period added);
一 申請に係る転勤の直前に外国にある本店、支店その他の事業所において法別表第一の二の表の技術・人文知識・国際業務の項の下欄に掲げる業務に従事している場合で、その期間（企業内転勤の在留資格をもって外国に当該事業所のある公私の機関の本邦にある事業所において業務に従事していた期間がある場合には、当該期間を合算した期間）が継続して一年以上あること。
(ii) the applicant is to receive a remuneration equivalent to or greater than that a Japanese national receives for the same work.

(i) Document indicating the relationship between the business office in the foreign country and the business office in Japan;
一 外国の事業所と本邦の事業所の関係を示す文書
(ii) a copy of the certificate of registered matters and the profit and loss statement, and materials demonstrating the content of business of the business office in Japan;
二 本邦の事業所の登記事項証明書、損益計算書の写し及び事業内容を明らかにする資料
(iii) document proving the content of the duties and years of service at the business office in the foreign country (in cases where the applicant resided in Japan with the status of residence of "Intra-Company Transferee" within one year immediately prior to being transferred, including the business office in Japan where the applicant engaged in business during the period);
三 外国の事業所（転勤の直前一年以内に申請人が企業内転勤の在留資格をもつて本邦に在留していた期間がある場合には、当該期間に業務に従事していた本邦の事業所を含む。）における職務内容及び勤務期間を証する文書
(iv) certificate of registered information of the business office in the foreign country and materials demonstrating the overview of the office;
四 外国の事業所の登記事項証明書及びその概要を明らかにする資料
(v) document proving the content and period of the activities and the foreign national's position and remuneration;
五 活動の内容、期間、地位及び報酬を証する文書
(vi) certificate of graduation and a document proving the foreign national's personal history.
六 卒業証明書及び経歴を証する文書
