"Professor"

"Professor" or /kyo-ju/ in Japanese is one of "Status of Residence" defined by Japanese immigration law.

Activities that can be carried out under the status of residence of "Professor"

Activities for research, guidance of research or education at a college, an equivalent educational institutions or a college of technology (kotosenmongakko).

Persons qualified for "Professor"
- a professor, assistant professor at a university
- a researcher at a higher education organization
etc.

Organization of activity
"Professor" is a status of residence that can conduct activities such as research and education at so-called higher education institutions.
Educational activities at institutions that do not correspond to university-equivalent institutions may be "Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services". In addition, there is a possibility that the activity of research at a research institute etc. of a private company may fall under the status of residence of "Researcher".
Educational activities at secondary and primary education institutions may have the status of residence of "Instructor".

Period of Stay

"Period of Stay" will be determined among one of the followings.
5-year, 3-year, 1-year or 3-month.

Spouse and Children

The status "Dependent" can be applied for a spouse and/or child of a foreigner who is staying in Japan with the status of "Professor".
