"Legal/Accounting Services" or /ho-ri-tsu--kai-kei-gyo-mu/ in Japanese is one of "Status of Residence" defined by Japanese immigration law.
Foreigners staying in Japan under the status of residence of "legal and accounting services" conduct activities engaged in business related to laws or accounting that are legally required by lawyers, tax accountants, administrative scrivener, etc. can do.
"Legal/Accounting Services" is the status of residence to do business that can not do business unless it is legally qualified. Therefore, the status of residence necessary for working in the legal department or accounting department of a private company is usually "Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services".
Persons qualified for "Legal/Accounting Services"
- lawyers, judicial scriveners, public accountants, tax accountants, administrative scrivener, etc.
"Period of Stay" will be determined among one of the followings.
5-year, 3-year, 1-year or 3-month.
Spouse and/or Children of a person who is staying in Japan under the status of "Legal/Accounting Services" will be qualified for the status "Dependent".

Followings are quotations from the immigration law/ordinance of the web site of Japanese government. However some of them were quoted before the revision in 2012. Therefore they might be old and different from the present rule.
Activities to engage in legal or accounting business, which is required to be carried out by registered foreign lawyers (Gaikokuhojimubengoshi) or certified public accountants (Gaikokukoninkaikeishi) or those with other legal qualifications.
The applicant must engage in duties as an attorney (bengoshi), judicial scrivener (shihoushoshi), land and house investigator (tochikaokuchousashi), registered foreign lawyer (gaikokuhou jimu bengoshi), certified public accountant (koninkaikeishi), foreign certified public accountant registered in Japan (gaikoku kouninkaikeishi), certified tax accountant (zeirishi), public consultant on social and labor insurance (shakaihokenroumushi), patent attorney (benrishi), maritime procedure agent (kaijidairishi), or administrative scrivener (gyouseishoshi).
