To live with his/her family in Japan, a foreigner need to fulfill requirements of at least one of the "Status of Residence".

Child of Foreign National with "Permanent Resident"

A child of a foreigner who is staying in Japan with "Permanent Resident" might be eligible for the status "Permanent Resident" 「永住者」 or "Spouse or Child of Permanent Resident" 「永住者の配偶者等」.

If a parent is staying in Japan under the status,"Long Term Resident", his/her child might be eligible for "Long Term Resident" 「定住者」.

If a parent is staying in Japan under some status such as "Engineer", "Artist", etc, his/her child might be eligible for "Dependent" 「家族滞在」.
